Who We Want

Who We Want

We want individuals dedicated to closing the achievement gap in Denver Public Schools.

Denver Teaching Fellows will have high expectations for their students – and themselves. Eighty three percent (83%) of DPS ninth grade students fell below proficient levels in math last year. We need people driven to change this in their classrooms. Fewer than half (48.6%) of DPS students graduate. We need leaders ready to work to elevate students’ success.

We are looking for candidates who are interested in teaching in subject areas where high-quality instruction and commitment are needed the most.

Teaching Fellows will teach math, special education or bilingual Spanish (K-6). We want people with little or no teaching experience but who are ready to enter the classroom to make a difference. There is no one profile for an ideal Teaching Fellows candidate; Fellows can span a wide range of backgrounds, bringing a diverse set of talents and skills to the program. This program is specifically designed for college graduates who may not have a degree in education, and professionals from other fields seeking an alternate route into a career in the classroom. Strong candidates are those who are committed to having a positive effect on student achievement, who display excellence through their previous endeavors, and who are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to reach and influence students – especially those in under-served areas – on a daily basis. Review the Eligibility section of this website for more details on the requirements to apply.

We want recent college graduates with records of success, who seek to foster academic success for the students of Denver’s high-need schools.

Maybe you have always wanted to become a teacher, but did not major in education. Maybe you have been a leader on campus and in your community, and you now seek a new way to continue to drive change. You may have a major in engineering or chemistry, and want to share your deep knowledge in a subject area where high-quality teachers are needed the most. Applying to Denver Teaching Fellows is your chance to join a highly-selective program comprised of talented individuals from across the country, like you, who are making the choice to give back, to lead, and to learn by becoming public school teachers.

We want professionals who have excelled in their careers, who are now ready to make a greater impact by becoming teachers.

Teaching Fellows will use their life experiences to their advantage. The most successful teachers are those who leverage their diverse knowledge, experiences, and achievements into the classroom to positively affect the lives of their students. Whether your background is in technology, social work, financial investments, healthcare, community voluntarism, or raising a family, this is a chance to use your skills to make a difference in the classroom. Denver Teaching Fellows provides you with a community of peers – dedicated individuals who, like you, want to make a difference by changing the lives of children.

Denver Teaching Fellows wants people who understand that a teacher’s strengths and skills can change numerous lives.
